ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN
The Fashion Office is a unique team at Nordstrom that required a presentation and work space area in one shared location. The 2,500 sq ft area selected was converted into a sleek design studio by removing walls, hanging floor to ceiling whiteboard wall covering, utilizing mobile conference tables and rolling whiteboards as room dividers and installing a floor mounted power system for maximum flexibility. The space can accommodate between 40-60 people for a presentation while the south-end work area is still in use for sixteen employees.
The IT department is currently changing the way they operate and the existing work environment needed to reflect the department's new work philosophy. A mock-up area was requested so they could test several new ideas for workspace layouts. The area used was 2,500 square feet and originally housed twenty-two 8'x8' cubicles and one private office. The final mock-up area achieved double the headcount, one private office, living room area and two break out conference areas. The workstations were a combination of enclosed cubicles, mobile/height adjustable 60"x30" desks and 48"x30" fixed workstations.
This project was done in collaboration with Gayla Guenther.
An IT group and Merchandising business unit combined teams on one floor of 30,000 sq ft. The floor layout provides cubicle space for up to 225 employees, a large flex space for Town Hall meetings, workshops and lunch room area, movable living room spaces for dedicated team break outs and mixed-use private offices and conference rooms that are shared by the entire floor. The walls are all painted in bright colored write-able paint called WINK and a more open cubicle plan allows for cross communication among the pods.
For the past year and a half, I have been responsible for the re-design of twelve complete floors out of the fifteen floors in my building. Over 1,000 employees have moved into new spaces as a result of these changes and the remaining three floors are being considered for reconfiguration. The reconfiguration of these twevle floors provided the company with a cost saving solution for an increase in overall density and the need to maximize the current real-estate in downtown Seattle. Each floor was designed specifically for the departments' needs but utilized a standard format to maximize flexibility over time and to limit data and electrical costs in the future. During this process interior upgrades and construction have occurred on a floor to floor request such as private office improvements, storage room conversions and team specific meeting rooms.
The floor plans displayed are examples of two reconfigured floors and their prior configurations.
A lead executive for the Marketing Department requested a unique satellite office for impromptu meetings, brain storming sessions and one on one coffee conversations. He has a traditional office in another building so he did not feel the need to have a normal set up with a desk and computer. The request was to create a space that would encourage creative ideas and promote collaboration.
The furnishings and lighting were sourced from Room and Board and West Elm and the art work was custom designed and created by M. Bentley. The north and west wall are painted with WINK, a writeable gloss, and the south wall was painted in chalkboard paint. The east wall is an installation of StickWood adhesive wall covering and the flooring is flipped over Milliken Carpet Tile with a natural cow hide rug.
Summer Grove is a new development in Kirkland, WA developed by CamWest. Posh Home, Inc. was hired to provide staging services for the sales office unit while the remaining lots were still under construction. The target buyers for this particular area are first time home owners and the style was chosen to reflect a more casual yet creative style.
